Call for Papers and Session Proposals

The Call for Papers and Session Proposals opens January 1, 2026.

The Southern Economic Association® (SEA) will host its 96th Annual Meeting in Houston, TX at the Marriott Marquis Houston, November 21-23, 2026 (Saturday to Monday).

The SEA invites the submission of individual papers and complete session proposals for consideration of inclusion on the 2026 conference program.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The SEA Program Planning Board, chaired by SEA President-Elect, Sara Markowitz (Emory University), will review all submissions and provide notices of acceptance by mid-June 2026.

Submit a Paper

The SEA requires payment of a nonrefundable $35.00 submission fee per individual paper submission. Submissions must include:

  • Paper Presenter Name, Affiliation, and Email Address
  • Coauthor(s) Name, Affiliation, and Email Address
  • Paper Title
  • Two (2) JEL Classification Codes (JEL Classification Codes Guide)
  • Paper Abstract (max. 1,000 characters, about 250 words; Optional PDF Attachment).

All paper submissions and payments must be received by Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Submit a Session Proposal

The SEA waives submission fees for papers submitted as part of a complete session proposal. To submit a session proposal, please visit the SEA MeetingSavvy submissions portal at the link below. SEA President-Elect/2026 Program Chair, Sara Markowitz, will review and approve all session submissions for inclusions on the conference program.

All session proposals must be received by Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
